676 Lorne Scots
In addition to all the other events, the 676 offers cadets the opportunity to participate in many teams and activities. Cadets are encouraged to try as many teams as they like. SCUBA Open Water Certification Program
Prerequisite: Personal mask, fins, snorkel and dive boots, Cadets must be able to swim 200 meters and tread water for 10 minutes. Medically fit with no medical restrictions.
Cost: Approx $440 plus personal mask, snorkel, fins and dive boots. (Course includes original instruction material/books, course, use of all dive equipment and PADI open water certification)

SCUBA training at the 676 is an optional program offered to Red through Gold Star Cadets. PADI Open Water Diver training and certification is offered every other year with spring 2015 being the next opportunity. Cadets completing the course will receive a certification that is good for life and recognized everywhere in the world.
The course consists of 10 hours of classroom instruction with 8 hours of in pool practical training during 1 weekend in the early spring. Certification testing is done in May or June. This testing is done on a Saturday and Sunday and consists of multiple dives in water about 25 feet deep.

The orienteering is the sport of navigating over unfamiliar terrain with map and compass with the goal of completing the course in the shortest time. The 676 Orienteering team has won medals in both 2008 2009 and 2011 competitions.
This team will be selected in September and will compete at the zone and regional levels.
OIC: Capt Lima
Tryouts for this team are in the fall of each year. Competition rules require that there be representation on the team from junior (14 and under) and senior cadets. There are 5 members per team plus 2 alternates. The team selected from the 676 will compete at zone shoots throughout the year.

This team will be selected in September and will begin a training program that includes shooting practice with the marksmanship team. Training will also include running and cross country ski sessions during the winter.
