Teams

In addition to all the other events, the 676 offers cadets the opportunity to participate in many teams and activities.  Cadets are encouraged to try as many teams as they like. Current information and updates on training dates for all the 676 teams can be found on each team page and in the Corps Calendar.

SCUBA Open Water Certification Program


Prerequisite: Personal mask, fins, snorkel and dive boots, Cadets must be able to swim 200 meters and tread water for 10 minutes. Medically fit with no medical restrictions.

Cost: Approx $440 plus personal mask, snorkel, fins and dive boots. (Course includes original instruction material/books, course, use of all dive equipment and PADI open water certification)

SCUBA training at the 676 is an optional program offered to Red through Gold Star Cadets.  PADI Open Water Diver training and certification is offered every other year with spring 2011 being the next opportunity.  Cadets completing the course will receive a certification that is good for life and recognized everywhere in the world.  Diver training is provided through Happy Divers Den in Streetsville.


The course consists of 10 hours of classroom instruction with 8 hours of in pool practical training during 1 weekend in the early spring.  Certification testing is done in May or June at Gulliver’s Lake in Flamborourgh.  This testing is done on a Saturday and Sunday and consists of multiple dives in water about 25 feet deep.

The 676 will also be offering dive experience days in June.  Open to all certified divers in the 676, we will be travelling to local dive venues in Southern Ontario for a day of SCUBA diving.  Although all divers participating from the 676 are certified to dive without supervision, participants will be escorted by certified dive masters.  Safety is the central focus of the 676 dive program.  Cost for the dive days is the cost of equipment rentals only.  




Orienteering Team

The orienteering is the sport of navigating over unfamiliar terrain with map and compass with the goal of completing the course in the shortest time.  The 676 Orienteering team has won medals in both 2008 and 2009 competitions.  This team will be selected in September and will compete at the zone and regional levels.

This team operates in the fall and competes with other Central Ontario Cadet Corps.  The team will consist of 6 members and will compete at the —––-.   Watch the Corps Calendar for signup dates.

Marksmanship Team


Prerequisite: None

Cost: None

Tryouts: September

Tryouts for this team are in the fall of each year. Competition rules require that there be representation on the team from junior (14 and under) and senior cadets. There are 5 members per team plus 2 alternates. The team selected from the 676 will compete at zone shoots throughout the year.


Biathlon Team

Prerequisite: None

Cost: None

This team will be selected in September and will begin a training program that includes shooting practice with the marksmanship team.  Training will also include running and cross country ski sessions during the winter.  

Drill & Rifle Drill Teams

Prerequisite: None
Cost: None
Signup: January

This team will be selected in the winter.  Cadets with an interest in advanced precision military drill and rifle drill will find this team challenging and rewarding.  The drill team will  compete in area drill competitions held in the spring.

Discover SCUBA  


Prerequisite: Cadets must be able to swim

During Alternate years, a discover SCUBA course is offered to all Cadets which involves basic instruction and use of dive equipment under the direct supervision of a dive master. Next offered in February 2012, this 1-2 hour session in a 10 foot deep pool allows Cadets to experience SCUBA diving and build interest for the open water certification course. Dive instruction is provided by Happy Divers Den at the Cobra Swim Club in Brampton.
